Wii Channels

The Wii interface contains a number of channels for interactive and online content. Using the Wiimote as a pointing device you can navigate through these channels for your entertainment.

Wii forecast channel

The Homebrew Channel is a simple way to allow you to play unofficial games and run unofficial applications on your Wii. Modifying your Wii's software will void your Wii system's warranty and can potentially damage your console if done incorrectly.

The forecast channel lets you see what the weather is like, both in your area and elsewhere in the world. The interface is similar to Google Earth, you can spin the globe using a flick of the Wiimote. You can then zoom in on places and drag the map at a slower pace. The map will have basic weather symbols giving you an idea of the weather in that area. Naturally this channel relies on an Internet connection to function.

Wii news channel

As its name suggests, the news channel gives you access to the news. Using an Internet connection it will display the latest headlines for you to browse. Selecting one will bring up the appropriate news article for you to read.

The Wii Shop Channel was an online shop for the Wii video game console that allowed users to download Virtual Console games, WiiWare games, and additional channels. The channel launched on November 19, 2006, and ceased operations worldwide on January 30, 2019. The Wii Shop Channel, as you might recall, ended up looking a lot different when it was officially released, and has now of course been shut down. Here's a look at an early Wii Shop Channel, dated. Internet Channel The Wii’s Internet Channel has opened up a lot of opportunities for fun stuff, like homebrewed games, Flash, and lots more. Homebrew: You can create games that are fit for playing through the Wii’s Internet Channel. The Wii Shop channel gives you access to Virtual Console games and Wii Ware software programs developed specifically for the Wii. The Wii Ware section is empty right now, but it does have a coming.

Mii channel

The innovative Mii software allows you to create little caricature versions of people. These people can be customised extensively, with varying height, weight, hairstyles, colors, accessories and facial features. Your people are then stored on the Wiimote's built-in memory and included in certain games like Wii Sports, essentially putting you in the game!

Photo channel

The photo channel allows you to load in pictures taken with your digital camera via the SD memory card slot. It can display a maximum of approximately 1,000 photos. Many fun options exist which allow you to doodle or add effects to your photos or any frame of a video clip. The file formats supported are JPGs of up to 8192x8192 for photos, and QuickTime videos of up to 848x480.

Internet channel

A special version of Opera has been developed to allow Wii users to browse the web on their TV sets using the Wiimote. Rumors exist that the Opera software will be free to download within the first 6 months of the Wii's life, this is not yet confirmed.

Shopping channel

On the shopping channel you'll be able to download your favorite classic Nintendo games to play on the Virtual Console or newer WiiWare titles. Purchases are made using a points system, whereby a 100 points is roughly equivalent to a dollar.

Everybody votes channel

Like its name suggests, 'Everybody Votes' lets you (and anyone else who has a Mii on your console) to vote on polls. New polls are posted every few days and have 2 answers to choose from, for example 'If you were a time traveler - Would you go to the past or the future?'. You can also cast a prediction on which option will be most popular. Results are updated after a week or so, and you can see fun statistics based on nationality and gender.

Check Mii Out

This is another Mii-oriented channel for entertainment and community building. Users can browse a wide selection of Miis based on famous people, characters or themes and download them into their own systems. There's also a biweekly contest where you can submit your own Miis.

Nintendo channel

The Nintendo Channel will keep you up to date on the latest news for Wii and DS games, with interviews, documentaries and downloadable demos for DS titles.

This is a quick start guide on how to use WiiFlow, a USB loader for the Wii that’s used to play games from a USB drive or SD card.

What you need

A Wii
A USB drive and/or SD card

Make sure you have installed cIOS before following this!

We recommend you copy games over with Wii Backup Manager if you use Windows, Witgui if you use macOS, or Wii Backup Fusion for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

If you want to play games that are in NKit format, use this program to convert them to ISO first. You can also use a development build of Dolphin, right click on a game, and use “Convert File” to convert it.

If you are not copying games using Wii Backup Manager, Witgui, or Wii Backup Fusion, make a folder on the root of the USB drive or SD card named “wbfs” and put the games in there.

To play games, we recommend using an external hard drive for your Wii. Flash drives should be usable too, but external hard drives are recommended as they are more reliable, and can store more games.

Unlike USB Loader GX, WiiFlow can load games of an SD card.

Make sure your USB drive and/or SD card is formatted as FAT32 or NTFS. Do not format it as other types such as extFS or WBFS, the latter is an old format of storing Wii games.

Downloading

Extract WiiFlow and put the apps and WiiFlow folders on your USB drive or SD card.
Insert your USB drive, and SD card if you’re using one, into your Wii and launch WiiFlow from the Homebrew Channel.

Getting Started

This is not a full comprehensive guide on using WiiFlow. This is intended to help you learn how to use it, by giving you a quick start. You should be able to figure out all the great features of WiiFlow by using it.

WiiFlow by default is set to only find games on the SD card. This can be changed by going in to settings, startup settings then turn off “Mount SD Only”.
You can toggle between viewing Wii games, GameCube games, Wii Channels, Plugins, Homebrew apps by clicking the button second to last button on the right.
You can download game covers by going to “Settings” then “Download Covers and Banners”

User Interface

When WiiFlow detects games, they are displayed in flow view. When you click on a game you are given these options:

Wii Channels Download

Star - Adds game to favorites.
Bookshelf - Adds the game to 1 of 6 categories of your choosing.
Gears - Opens the settings menu for the specific game. Changing settings here will only effect the game you changed the settings for.
X - Deletes the game from the USB drive or SD card

How To Add Wii Channels

Bookshelf - View the games that are sorted in the categories you chose.
Star - View games you favorited.
Gears - Opens WiiFlow Settings.
Game Type - Toggles between different types of apps/games. The logo changes depending on what game type you have selected.
Disc - Loads game that is in disc drive.
House - Will open this menu. This menu can also be launched by pressing the home button.

Help Guide - Shows all the controls you can use in WiiFlow.
Reload Cache - Press this when WiiFlow is not detecting a new game on the USB drive or SD card.
File Explorer - Allows you to boot games/apps from anywhere on your USB drive or SD card.
Select Plugins - Allows you to select plugins.
Credits - Shows the people who worked on WiiFlow.
Shutdown - Allows you to either go into full shutdown, or Standby mode.
Exit To - Lets you exit to Wii Menu, HBC, neek2o, Priiloader and Bootmii.
Settings - Will open the WiiFlow Settings menu
